Dear Literary Agent,
I am writing to ask for the representation of my first, supposedly hundred-thousand-word romantic drama/adventure novel, YOU MADE MY DAY, which follows a series of movie scripts varied in genres. YOU MADE MY DAY covers two milestone decades of the past century – from the late 1970s to the 2000s. It symbolically juxtaposes the tough wave of changes with the hero’s controversial journey, urging him to reconsider his moral and spiritual values to survive. The book meticulously researches the relationships that erratically pulsate as the plot develops on the background of two culturally diverse platforms, two politically confronting locales, and two socially alienated societies.
YOU MADE MY DAY is structured as a duology, in two sequential parts, or ‘Books’: the first Book, Freudian Slip, is where Mike Melone, the protagonist, is forced to break away from his native stomping ground. The second one, On the Other Side of the Fence, is where he faces the challenge of starting from scratch and braves consequential adventurous twists and turns. Due to his lighthearted mindset, a rash mistake entraps a young and inexperienced Mike in amorous intrigue, turning his life upside down and compelling him to leave his country. While starting over, Mike remains burdened by the recollections of the past that pose metamorphic obstacles painful to overcome: a strong attachment to Domenti, his grandfather who raised and mentored him, a lustful affair with obsessive elite mistress Helen Harold who insidiously conspired to possess him, and a sincere affinity with his disabled staunch friend Tina Spalding who covertly cherished her zestful love with him.
Overseas, a clean canvas begins to fill with collages of colorful portraits of a flamboyant stripper, Ingrid Berg, and an amicable gay limo driver, GG (Greg Gordon), whose exceptional fidelity fosters Mike’s headway from the ground up and his penetration of Diane Macalister’s multimillion-dollar empire.
When Mike Melone, an already established entertainer, by a twist of fate, comes across a best-selling book that mirrors his 15-year-old story, Mike’s life reverses to a quest to find the author – Tina Spalding, whose love endured as the only genuine legacy worth his commitment to embark on crucial changeovers in which two mobster Georgiev brothers’, Alex and Vasko’s loyalty helps Mike to break free from Diane’s constraints and expedite his reunification with Tina in Eastern Europe. However, the wheel of fortune does not stop on the happy end and keeps spinning, landing the wedge on puzzles Mike and Tina have to pay a price to solve and leave bygones behind.
YOU MADE MY DAY is predominantly for the young adult reader. It depicts the Baby Boomer epoch, a generation that crossed the millennium timeline staying free from the smothering artificial intelligence and gadget mania, and loyal to the values of the 20th century. On the other hand, the elderly reader also would scarcely deny a chance to share a sensation from a nostalgic time-travel, as the style and tone of the book offer. I recall times when, in the 1970s, Erich Segal’s LOVE STORY turned into an iconic novel for all ages, ranging from teenagers to seniors.
YOU MADE MY DAY uses an omniscient style of narration. Armed with the philosophy that a choice of exuberant wording does not always lead to an eloquent narrative, I elected a moderate way of conveying ideas to make the storytelling universally perceptible, culturally and language-wise. Although the plot implied an in-depth investigation of personal sentiments and reactions to emotional challenges, the tone in my book remains reserved to avoid logorrhea and profanity. However, I do not skimp on descriptive and idiomаtic expressions, be it slang or foreign borrowings.
Thanks to modern computer technology we are blessed today to have all the bells and whistles to design and visually present a book pitch in the so-called ‘Moodboard’ form that I keep on the specially designed for my book website together with a short bio, excerpts from the book, images of character prototypes, their descriptions, my thoughts, frequently asked questions about the book, scripts, etc. I think it’s worth your while to take a peek.
